The club operates two permanant layouts at the Long Building in Central City Park in Macon, Georgia. The HO scale layout is currently being rebuilt for improved operating and viewing. Previously it had several problems such as duck unders and squeezes, not to mention several places with bad trackwork and general problems. We are moving it against the windows at the front for better viewing by guests at the fair and giving it more mainline run as well. We expect the layout to be running before the Georgia State Fair in the Fall.
The layout is in a 75' long by 16' wide room. Along the front of the room are windows for visitors to see the layout. A train yard, scrap yard and a marble quarry are on the surviving section of the layout. We plan on adding an engine servicing facility, a passenger terminal, a bridge construction scene, a mountain scene built by Karl Warden, and other general buildings and businesses.
The N Scale layout is in a seperate room across from the HO scale layout. It is 15x15' and includes two mainlines and a yard, with several bridges and tunnels. The layout is mostly complete except for scenery, which is being worked on.
During the Cherry Blossom Festival and the Fair, we also set up the layout from the Atlanta Exhibit and some of the modules. A G Scale train is set up on several tables as well. We also have a Thomas the Tank Engine train set up for the kids to run.
